Just another
cookie in the crowd?
Though they might look delicious, prospective customers browsing your company’s site have most likely seen many of your competitors’ sites. How does yours measure up to theirs?

Cookie-cutter Sites
Templates are big business. A Google search for “website templates” yields more than ONE HUNDRED MILLION results! By comparison, a Google search for “vanilla” yields only thirty-four million results. If that doesn’t show you that website templates are big business -- and something to be avoided at all costs -- nothing will.

What are Website Templates, and Why Should You Care?
Website templates usually begin as Adobe Photoshop(tm) designs, created by aspiring graphic artists who sell them, royalty-free, to larger website “template” companies for a negligible amount of money. The template companies turn the artists’ designs into websites and then sell these template sites to website design companies, usually for $50 or less. This is where you, the website customer, enters the picture. You hire the website design company to “design” your website. What you, the unsuspecting client, don’t know is that your site was built on a template -- the very same template that could appear on one, two or hundreds of other sites, even your competitor’s!

The typical website template comes pre-configured, allowing a website design company to quickly create websites for their clients. What’s stopping them from selling the same cookie-cutter site to multiple clients?
